Brenda began modeling as a child after a modeling school agent spotted her at a mall, and she has appeared in commercials for Little Caesars and Barbie since the age of five. Brenda and her mother moved to Los Angeles when she was six years old so that she could pursue more acting opportunities, and her father and brothers joined them two years later.

Brenda wanted to learn ballet when she was younger. But one of her brothers wanted to learn taekwondo, and because their mother didn't want to take them to two different places, both children took taekwondo. 

Song cried during her first class, but she went on to earn a black belt. She was named an All-American Scholar as a freshman in high school. Because of her acting career, she was homeschooled and graduated from high school at the age of 16.
