Countercultural Filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. Passed Away at The Age of 85.

Robert Downey Sr, a movie maker, actor, and father of superstar Robert Downey Jr, passed away at 85. The senior filmmaker left the world on July 7, 2021.

The sad news of the late actor's demise was shared by his son Downey Jr.; He wrote that his father died late Tuesday in his sleep at home in New York. Downey Sr. had Parkinson's disease for more than five years.

Downey Jr. shared an old picture of his father and wrote, "RIP Bob D. Sr. 1936-2021…Last night, dad passed peacefully in his sleep after years of enduring the ravages of Parkinson's..he was a true maverick filmmaker and remained remarkably optimistic throughout." The actor added, "Rosemary Rogers-Downey, you are a saint, and our thoughts and prayers are with you."

The late director Downey Sr. was born in New York City in 1936 as Robert Elias Jr. According to The Detroit News, Robert later changed his surname to Downey, his stepfather's name, to enlist in the army. After the military, he got into filmmaking by chance while living in New York with his sister.

The Twilight Zone's director has been part of more than thirty-five movies in his career. Downey Sr. has directed more than twenty movies and has also produced many films in his filmmaking career. Rittenhouse Square is the last movie directed by him.
