Taylor attended Hope Christian Academy in Clayton County, Atlanta, Georgia. But in school, there was not even a single music program at all. So he practiced his drumming skills and gained his style from YouTube, where he gained knowledge from various people.

Devon Taylor's Career Beginnings 

Devon Taylor practiced drums by watching videos on YouTube for six to seven years before making it to the finals in 2011. But soon, his life changed when he was called to play for the music artist Musiq Soulchild. 'Shortly after that, I called to do Music Soulchild. I was only supposed to be filling in for my homey Page, ' said Devon.

Devon was supposed to fill in for his friend for about a week, but that week turned into a year and again another additional year. He started playing for Musiq Soulchild in 2013. That was his first big gig. 'That gig taught me a lot too. It was my first time ever playing with SPDS pad, my first time ever playing with click, and slates, 'Devon said. 'It was also my first time playing the show, an actual show where I had to play certain parts, and I can't differentiate from what's going on in the record. That was the first time I ever had to learn patterns and stick to the patterns. That gig taught me a lot, man.' 

Devon Taylor's Work With Other Artists

While Devon Taylor was still working with Musiq Soulchild, he also got a call to work for Zendaya in 2014. He was excited to work with the Disney star and began playing with her soon after receiving the offer. He, however, also worked for Musiq Soulchild, but not as much as he used to before.

Taylor also got another opportunity afterward to work at Jagged Edge at the time for about a month or two. He also got a call to do with Chrisette Michelle, with whom he worked throughout 2014.

Devon Taylor began talking with Emily from Avedis Zildjian Company around November of 2015. He was introduced to her by his friend named LaRon Skeeter McMillan. He is represented by and uses Zildjian cymbals.

Taylor gave his reason for joining Zildjian in an interview on the company's YouTube channel in 2016. Here's what he said about his willingness to join the company: 'The reason why I wanted to reach out to the Zildjian in the first place is that previous single company and other single companies I was using like just going through their singles and cracking their singles like so fast and man I was just like dude I have to find a company or a single that's like super sturdy the way I hit.'
