Eduardo Tamayo and Tulsi Gabbard Were Childhood Sweethearts

Eduardo Tamayo and Tulsi Gabbard were in love since their childhood before they tied the knot. Their childhood relationship turned into marriage in 2002 when Tulsi wed Eduardo at the age of 21.

The couple did not have a fancy wedding. The marriage ceremony was performed before a justice of peace, attended by a few family members. In the same year she got married, Tulsi was elected to Hawaii's House of Representatives and thus became the youngest person to do so.

Eduardo Tamayo and Tulsi Gabbard's marriage was not meant to sustain. The couple's relationship was strained when she was deployed to Iraq for 18 months with the Hawaii Army National Guard.

When she returned, it became hard to save her marriage with Eduardo, and shortly after her return, they divorced in 2006. Tulsi gives her own explanation for the failure of the wedding on a personal note: 

The deployment was very hard on my husband and on our marriage. Sadly, Eddie and I became another statistic, another sad story, illustrating the stresses war places on military spouses and families.

On the same personal note, Tulsi mentioned that she and Eduardo are still friends, and his family still welcomes her as their own.
