As per Film Fare, Justin Bieber has gone viral, but not in a good way. On Friday, the musician posted a three-minute video to Instagram declaring that he now suffers from Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a rare (and typically reversible) ailment.

"IMPORTANT, PLEASE WATCH," the caption reads. I love you, everyone, and ask that you remember me in your prayers," Bieber, who was visibly depressed, said that he had contracted a virus that attacked the nerves in his ear and face, paralyzing him. He proved that his right eye does not blink, that he is unable to smile on the right side of his face, and that his right nostril does not move.

He apologized for canceling his planned gigs but emphasized that he is currently unable to do so due to medical limitations. "As you can see, this is a terrible situation," he added. "I wish this weren't the case, but my body is clearly telling me that I need to slow down." "I hope you people get it."

Bieber plans to use the time to "rest and relax and come back to 100 percent, so I can do what I was born to do," he said. "I've got to get my rest on," he continued, "so I can get my face back to where it belongs."

He concluded that he would get better, but it would take time, and that everything had happened for a reason, even if he didn't know what that reason was at the time.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome, according to CBS News, is a rare neurological condition caused by the same virus that causes shingles and chickenpox. In a given year, just five persons out of 100,000 will get the illness. It creates an ear rash that may progress to facial paralysis.

Full healing normally occurs after a few weeks of pharmacological treatment, depending on the severity of the nerve injury. However, in some circumstances, the illness might result in irreversible hearing and vision loss.

According to the Mayo Clinic's website, the syndrome affects people who have had chickenpox in the past. It can cause a long and intense bout of neuralgia (nerve pain) that can last long after the other symptoms of the disorder have faded. People over the age of 60 are the most likely to develop it.

Bieber canceled three forthcoming gigs earlier this week, including one in Toronto, not far from his hometown of Stratford, Ontario. He had to cancel a show in Las Vegas in late February after contracting COVID-19.
