Griffin was barred from performing at New York's Apollo Theatre after using profanity in an Octomom joke during her routine. She uploaded a video of herself holding "a mask styled to look like the severed, bloody head" of President Donald Trump to her Twitter and Instagram accounts on May 30, 2017

Later, Kathy apologized and removed the picture. Due to the image, she was fired from her position as Squatty Potty's spokesperson in May 2017. She was also detained at every airport during her Laugh Your Head Off world tour (a reference to the infamous Trump photograph) because of the photos. 

It led to a two-month-long federal investigation by the Justice Department, being added to the Interpol and Five Eyes lists, being placed on the No Fly List, and being under federal investigation.
