Tom Cruise Accepts 2023 MTV Award While Flying a Fighter Jet: 'I Love Entertaining You'

Tom Cruise soared to new heights at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The actor, known for performing his own stunts, won the best performance in a movie award for his role in Top Gun: Maverick. 

In his acceptance speech, he took things to a whole new level - literally. 

Viewers were treated to a clip of Cruise inside a fighter plane high up in the sky, wearing his signature sunglasses and speaking into a headset. And to everyone's surprise, his golden popcorn trophy was right there with him. 

"Thank you so much for this award," Cruise said. "I make these films for you. I love you. I love entertaining you. To know how much you enjoy it, how much you appreciate it, there's just no better feeling." 

It was clear that Cruise was genuinely grateful for the recognition and support he received from his fans. He also took the opportunity to promote his upcoming action film, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which is set to hit theaters on July 12. "It's a wild ride," he teased. 

Cruise ended his speech by thanking his fans again, saying, "You have a wonderful summer. Thank you again for letting me entertain you. It's an absolute privilege. We'll see you at the movies." 

Cruise faced stiff competition in the best performance in a movie category, with nominees like Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Keke Palmer, and Michael B. Jordan. However, his impressive performance in Top Gun: Maverick secured him the award. 

Top Gun: Maverick had the most nominations for movies at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Meanwhile, Stranger Things and The Last of Us led in the scripted television category, both with six nominations. 

The awards show had a last-minute change from the previously planned live format after host Drew Barrymore backed out of the gig in solidarity with the ongoing Hollywood writers strike. 

Despite the change, the evening's winners accepted their awards in pre-taped speeches, including Pedro Pascal, Jennifer Coolidge, and the Vanderpump Rules cast, among others. 

Tom Cruise's acceptance speech at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards was a memorable one. It's not every day you see an award winner giving his speech while flying a fighter jet! Cruise's love for his fans and passion for entertaining them were on full display.
