Her parents, the renowned American civil rights activists Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, were not just figures of history but were also parents who included six daughters.

The bond between Malcolm X and Gamilah as a father-daughter relationship didn't last long because X was assassinated one year after her birth on February 21st, 1965.

Her father, a human rights activist advocating for the empowerment of African and Muslim communities, met an untimely end at the Manhattan Audubon Ballroom in the OAAU shooting.
