Vanessa Williams and Jim Skrip met by chance on a Nile River cruise in Egypt. In 2015, Williams told Madame Noire that she wasn't expecting to find love at the time. 

According to a 2019 Glamour interview, their tour guide in Egypt thought they might hit it off, and Williams took the first step because Skrip wouldn't approach her while she was with her daughter. 

In another chat with PEOPLE in 2015, Williams shared that their first meeting led to a three-hour dinner where they discovered lots in common, and it felt like destiny. 

Speaking to Madame Noire, Williams added that Skrip accepted her for who she was after a meaningful three-hour date where they talked about themselves.

The Buffalo Connection

Williams rocked the stunning Pamella Roland dress with a pink sash around her waist and a loosely styled chignon. 

Talking about the special moment, Williams posted a photo on her Instagram page of the couple sharing a kiss during their walk down the aisle. She captioned it, "Yesterday, we took one last walk down the aisle—this time in my little church. Officially wedded Catholic. Amen! #MyJim." 

Skrip Used to Be a Businessman

Before encountering Williams, Skrip had achieved success as both an accountant and a real estate agent, a fact disclosed by the star during a 2014 appearance on The Queen Latifah Show.

Perfect Family Guy

During their 2015 wedding, Skrip honored his family in unique ways. According to Williams, speaking to PEOPLE, Skrip's wedding band is a family heirloom that once belonged to his grandfather. Interestingly, Williams and Skrip tied the knot in the same Buffalo, New York church where Skrip's grandparents had exchanged vows. 

Describing Skrip as a "traditional kind of guy," Williams explained, "It was in his mother’s possession, and he just kept it because he liked it." 

Skrip also paid tribute to Williams' family. As she shared with PEOPLE, he wore an ivory suit during the wedding as a gesture to honor her father, who had worn a similar ivory jacket at his own wedding. 

"I said, ‘Okay, we got to do this,’ ” Williams recalled, noting that he chose to wear the jacket to "keep it traditional."
