Courteney Cox Appreciates Playing Overweight Monica Geller on FRIENDS

Courteney Cox is appreciative of playing an overweight version of her character on FRIENDS.

While Courteney Cox is self-isolating amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she's been binge-watching FRIENDS. The popular NBC sitcom is bringing back fond memories of playing the overweight version of the fan-favorite character.

For those unaware, Cox portrayed Monica Geller on the hit comedy series, which lasted for ten seasons. Part of Monica's story is she was overweight in her teens, but she managed to lose pounds as she became a chef and knew more about cooking. However, this meant, in a couple of flashback scenes, the actress needed to wear prosthetics to render her appear obese.

Speaking with Ellen DeGeneres at her talk show, Cox revealed she found Monica's overweight character pretty liberating.

The actress explained to Ellen,

The Thanksgiving episodes are my favorite and the first season, I’ll be honest, I’m only on the first season, but that’s the Thanksgiving one where we all had the flashback and I was overweight Monica.

The actress continued, "I loved playing overweight Monica because I felt so free. I could dance like you and just sit up and dance and have no problem at all. I did love it. Those are really good episodes.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, the actress clarified she's been using this self-isolating period to re-watch her old sitcom after finding it difficult to recall her time on the show.

The 55-year-old added, “It’s really sad but I didn’t remember it at all. People ask me all the time like, ‘will you do a quiz?’ or “let's play this game to see who knows the characters the most.’ I don’t remember. I remember the people, and I remember specific things that happened but my memory is not great when it comes to fun times. I only remember the pain, I think. So I started watching. I’ve been binging it. It’s really good, turns out.”
