The global superstar Joaquin Phoenix says he's unsure if a Joker sequel will ever be made, but he'd like to reprise his role as Arthur Fleck.

As per Tech Radar, Phoenix revealed to The Playlist that he doesn't know if Joker 2 is in the works. Further, Phoenix noted that there is more to explore with the character, but he is unsure whether or not a sequel will occur.
During the interview, Phoenix also seemed to imply that if a sequel is made, he'd be open to reprising his role. Although Phoenix did not state it explicitly, his desire to play an interesting character in an exciting movie could be deducted from his tone.

Todd Phillips' Joker debuted in 2019, becoming an unexpected box office success and the first R-rated film to earn $1 billion. The movie offered a possible origin story for Phoenix's titular character, Arthur Fleck, a failed clown whose descent into cynicism sparks a turbulent revolution in Gotham City.
However, nothing has been officially confirmed, with the rumors stemming primarily from a blink-and-you'll-miss-it in a THR article on attorney Warren Dern claiming that Phillips (one of Dern's clients) had "struck a deal to co-write the next Joker.
