'Empire' creators shed light on the early finale date of the Fox series.
The final episode of 'Empire' season 6 is set to air on Fox on April 21, Tuesday, at 9/8c. Since the show is concluding early with episode 18, co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong shed light on the decision.
Speaking to TV Guide, Lee and Danny expressed their appreciation for the support they received over the course of the show's six seasons while also hoping they get to shoot a proper finale sometime in the future.

Daniels said in a statement,
"The success of 'Empire' and bringing the Lyon family to broadcast television will always be one of the proudest achievements of my career. This show is the definition of breaking barriers. Thank you to our incredible cast, especially Terrence and Taraji, along with our amazing writers and tireless crew, for all of their hard work and bringing this story to life."
Lee continued, there's more to do with these characters, and he's heartbroken by the fact they didn't get to shoot the finale they wanted, at least not yet. "But you know what they say on television? Stay tuned! To the Empire!"

Meanwhile, Strong added,
"We're so proud of this show and of everything this incredible cast - led by Taraji and Terrence - and crew accomplished over six seasons. The episode airing on April 21 was never meant to be the series finale, but due to current events, it will likely be the last one our fans will see for a while."
The co-creator revealed they had planned an ending that they all loved, and hopefully, they'll get to film it someday and provide the series a proper farewell. However, Danny hopes everybody tunes up to the original final episode since the cast and crew deserve to get appreciated and watched for their tireless work by the biggest possible audience.
