The actress and singer began her award speech by referring to the highlight reel of her most well-known flicks, which had just finished playing.
"When I see those movies, I remember all of the fantastic people I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with. You can only be as good as the individuals with whom you collaborate. And, if you're lucky, they improve you. And I've been quite fortunate in that aspect."
Continuing, she said, "I'm not any of the women I've played as an actress, but there's a piece of me in each of them. I have a different kind of 'thank you' list tonight because you can't produce truth unless you've lived it."

"I'd like to express my gratefulness to everyone who has contributed to my life. I'd like to express my gratitude to those who have brought me happiness as well as those who have broken my heart "According to Lopez. "Those who told me the truth and those who told me lies. I'd like to express my appreciation for true love and for the way I lied to myself in order to realize that I needed to evolve."
As tears welled up in her eyes, the "Let's Get Loud" singer thanked "disappointment and failure for teaching me to be tough," as well as "my children for teaching me to love."
Lopez, the mother of 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, was greeted with applause as she became emotional and teary-eyed.
"I'd like to thank everyone who told me I couldn't do it, whether it was to my face or when I wasn't in the room. I don't think I would have been able to achieve it without you. And I'm certain I couldn't have done it without the support of the moviegoers."
She saluted her admirers by pointing across the room and saying, "I'm here because of you... and I love you. I love you."
She stated she doesn't usually thank her longtime manager Benny Medina, but she did this time. Medina then blew a lovely kiss to Lopez from the crowd, expressing his love for him.
Lopez expressed regret to the crowd "I'm getting emotional," she continued, "and you guys know who I am." It's a pleasure to be able to communicate with audiences, especially you guys. And it is because of all of you that I will continue to uphold that honor for as long as I am alive. I love you. Thank you very much."
She also thanked the MTV crew for their "years of support."
"Wait for me to eat dinner, I'll be home by seven," Lopez remarked, addressing her fiancé Ben Affleck, who was not present.
Lopez has a lengthy and impressive filmography. She portrayed the titular music legend in Selena in 1997, Hustlers in 2019, and a variety of romantic comedies throughout the years, including The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, and the most recent Marry Me.
