The 2019 biopic about Judy's life was so well received that Zellweger managed to bag two Oscar nominations and one Golden Globe in Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. That's saying a lot because Zellweger came back to the industry after a six-year-long hiatus. Recently the 50 years old actress revealed how it felt to step into the shoes of Judy Garland.
The late singer Judy Garland.
'Judy' perfectly portrayed the hard and troublesome life led by Garland. It captures her initial success and what happens when her progress worsens due to health issues. Renee left no stones unturned and did extensive research for the part. Excited to be the main cast of the movie, Zellweger read up a lot about Garland and did extensive research about her life. After that, she only felt more and more compelled to tell her story through the film.
Inspired by Garland's story, Renee Zellweger said,
She kept going and she still had that power in her voice. She just didn't quit. She managed to triumph over so much adversity. Her sheer genius and natural ability is one in a hundred million years.
It's possible that Renee felt a hint of similarity between her own life and Garland's. Bridget Jones's Diary actress went through something similar in the past with her health and career, thus the decision for a six-year break from the industry.
