Lindsay's parents Michael and Dina Lohan, had a problematic relationship over the years. As the pair got divorced, Lindsay's dad Michael Lohan got into a close relationship with tabloid journalist Kate Major.

Lohan and former tabloid reporter Kate Major became engaged over Easter holidays in the year 2010. They broke up after a while but continued their relationship, which was marked by conflict that was depicted in the fifth season of the VH1 reality TV series, 'Celebrity Rehab with Dr.' 

Being a tabloid journalist, Kate had met Lindsay before she got into a relationship with Michael Lohan. Unfortunately, their marriage didn't last long, and in 2015, Kate filed for legal separation from Lohan.

Michael told The Blast that Kate filing a divorce hit him unexpectedly.

Kate and I went to a mediation attorney to work out the terms of the divorce, but her lawyer pulled a fast one and went behind my back.

The couple also lost custody for their kids Landon and Logan to Michael's mother, Marilyn Lohan, in November 2015, after social services obtained a video of them arguing in front of the boys.

Major has since had multiple run-ins with the law. She got arrested for allegedly throwing a glass candle holder at Michael. 

Kate Major was also booked for drinking while intoxicated just one day before Michael Lohan's arrest for allegedly abusing her. Michael Lohan got arrested for a misdemeanor offense of criminal obstruction of breathing and second-hand harassment.

According to a complaint obtained by the Daily Mail, Major had alleged to cops that Lohan grabbed her by the throat after hurling plastic hangers in her direction. The alleged attack left her with visible bruises, she claimed.

Recently, TMZ reported that Michael, instead of jail time or probation, reached a plea deal, which requires him to enter a 'limited protective order' concerning Kate. Lohan can be in contact with her, but 'must not threaten, harass or abuse her' in any way.

With their fragile relationship, the couple is trying their best to keep it low as they want to avoid trouble at all costs.

Lindsay's mother, Dina Lohan, lent a helping hand to Kate Major, the estranged wife of Dina Lohan's ex-husband, Michael Lohan.

"I got a frantic call from Kate Major that she and Michael were fighting," Dina continued. "They have two kids, so I said OK. She said, 'Can I come there? Can I come there?' I said, 'Yeah, you could come here.' " 

Even though Kate and Michael separated in 2015, they were staying together at times to give their kids a healthy family life. Knowing their abusive relationship, the drama was bound to happen. 

Dina being a good human being, let Kate stay with her, giving her a sense of protection. "I'd had a gut feeling something bad was going to happen," she said. "I didn't want my ex to get hurt or her or the children. So to alleviate tension, I said, come here."

Lindsay hasn't said anything in all of this, with her past DUI cases, the actor's been laying low and avoiding any drama.
