Furthermore, she said, 'I want to lose a couple of pounds.’ I want to look my best, be my best, and feel my best.'

In fact, she gave some hints away in her memoir, 'The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,' that she lost much weight when she traveled to Senegal. Surprisingly, the black actress spends multiple years in the African nation alongside her parents.

The star from 'Awkward Black Girl' isn't quite awkward in real life, as the artist is full of a bold attitude that determined her to lose weight. The approach on how Issa Rae made to achieve her goal was even more impressive since she didn't actually sacrifice her favorite food at an instance.

The talented actress integrated a healthy lifestyle, courtesy of a paleo-leaning diet. Rae's popular diet included lean meats, fish, fruits, and nuts. While the approach was fruitful with the results in Issa's case, the paleo diet does pose some risks to bone health since it is deficient of calcium and vitamin D. A lifestyle shift played the most pivotal role for the 35-year-old as she stopped going to random restaurants multiple times a week. Moreover, she started cooking her own food and cut down on calories too.
