The American singer and actress Jennifer Hudson came into prominence in 2004 as a finalist on the third season of 'American Idol.' She finished 7th in the competition. As an actress, she is known for her portrayal of 'Effie White' in 'Dreamgirls.' For her performance in the film, she won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Jennifer Hudson had other acting roles too. Some of them include 'Sex and the City,' 'The Secret Life of Bees,' and 'Black Nativity.' In 2015, she made her Broadway debut in the role of Shug Avery in 'The Color Purple.' Jennifer Hudson enjoyed a fulfilling career so far, but one of the proudest things in her life is not some awards or big-name movies. It's 80-pound weight loss, and here's how she achieved it.
Jennifer Hudson did not give much care to her body weight, but after the birth of her son, David, in 2009, she began to get conscious of the state of her body. She expressed to Showbiz Cheat Sheet what she felt when she became aware of her body's shape. 'I thought, Hold on — why doesn't anybody know I'm pregnant? … Right after I had him, I began trying to change things.'
Jennifer Hudson underwent 80-pound weight loss after she gave birth to her son.
Jennifer soon got help from the Weight Watchers' Program to lose weight. The WW gave the right advice and guidelines, and she adopted the measures they taught her while she embarked on her weight loss journey.
Jennifer chose walking to make her body physically more active. She called it a therapeutic approach to exercise instead of pressuring herself to hit the gym multiple times a day as she'd done in the past. 'I began walking 30 minutes every day, she said. 'I figured me walking is better than me sitting on the couch.' Along with walking, she also engaged her body in jogging, bike riding, basketball, and tennis. Additionally, she also does a workout called trilogy, a quick 15-minute exercise that combines cardio and strength moves.
Jennifer keeps two things in mind when she approaches her diet. The first thing is she never lets her food intimidate her. Whenever she gets cravings to overeat or binge-eat, she simply removes any food item that's in front of her. She focuses strictly on portion control.
Jennifer Hudson is also careful of what she eats for maintaining weight.
'I throw pancakes across the room! I don't let the food intimidate me,' she told Yahoo Style. Also, she makes sure the timing of when she eats is right. 'When it's early in the morning, I say … I would've been asleep … so I'm not going to eat.'
The second way Jennifer deals with her food is by not depriving her body of food. She incorporated this mindset in order to make a healthier approach to her diet. 'I had to break my diet mentality. I used to deprive myself, thinking that was healthy, she told Good Housekeeping. 'I didn't eat pasta, fried food, red meat. I hadn't had pizza in 10 years. If you're on a strict diet that says you shouldn't have any carbs or this or that, your body won't function the way it should. I know now that I can eat anything I want and still lose or maintain my weight. It's about portions and balance.'
