In 2016, June went through gastric sleeve surgery. The procedure was an alternative to the more well-known gastric bypass, and in this type of operation, the stomach's size is reduced by about 75%. This helps a person feel full longer and forces him or her to reduce their caloric intake dramatically.

Afterward, June's weight began to decrease from 460 pounds down to somewhere in the mid-100s.

As mentioned in an article by Eonline, she said, "I've worked my ass off, working out, getting healthy. And now I feel like becoming the person on the outside that I always felt like on the inside."

The main credit of Mama Shannon's weight loss also goes to her adaptation to a healthier diet plan, which included drastically reduced portion sizes. June admitted that she sleeps until 1 p.m., which helps her skip a meal in the morning. That way, she can maintain her food-intake level intact. Research shows that people who skip breakfast tend to eat more calories later in the day. Often these aren't healthy calories … they're from snack foods."

June cut out many food items from her eating list for her new healthier eating routine. She avoided potato chips and baked goods from her diet, supplementing her sweet tooth with fruit-infused water, watermelon, and apple chips. She cut out soda too and instead opted for cold turkey. Her daughter Pumpkin had suffered a brain injury in a car accident and was advised by a neurologist to avoid soda. That is also June's main reason for quitting the drink, to follow her daughter's soda restriction.

According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, June Shannon's typical snack nowadays consists of grapes and cheese. And she mostly makes baked chicken with quinoa or baked pork chops with corn and beans for her dinner. June had to change her appearance too. She also went through breast augmentation after the skin-removal procedure. Plus, she went through some other cosmetic operations in order to complete her beautifying process.

In the End, June 'Mama' Shannon Succeeded in Dropping 300 Pounds of Fat From Her Body

June started showing good results early in her weight-loss journey by losing 84 pounds in just three months. And by the time 'Mama June: From Not to Hot' began airing, Shannon weighed 137 pounds, dropping 215 pounds from her start at 352. This was a dramatic transformation indeed, as she went from straight size 18 to a size 4 in the end.

But June has not slacked off from her weight-loss routine, even though she looks a completely different person now. Her weight drop from 460 to 137 by over 300 pounds still needed active maintenance. She said, "It's not easy to eat like you're 'supposed to' and hit the gym all the time, but I'm just trying to maintain it the best I can."

In recent times, Mama June undergoes slight weight fluctuations but not too extreme. Instead, she recently revealed that she felt a little "too skinny" at her lowest weight. According to an article by Page Six, she said, "I've gained 25 pounds, I told people that in the first season I felt like, even going through it, I felt like I was too small. Now that I'm 185, 190 due depending on what time of the month is, I feel confident."

She although made it clear that she was careful enough not to take it too far. "I know I don't want to go over 200 pounds, that's been my goal from the very beginning when I had surgery two years ago. And I feel good right now. If I lose more weight, that's fine. I don't want to be super skinny," she said.

The primary motivation for June Shannon was more than her health concerns. She wanted her body to go through dramatic transformation to make her ex feel jealous. She wanted him to regret that he left her by fitting into a long-sleeved, size 4 dress and wearing it during his marriage.
