She's also done some modeling and worked as a photographer. She, like her mother, is an outspoken activist. Maggie was in the heart of things when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the United States in 2005, assisting the victims of the terrible 'Category 5' hurricane.

During Livingston's legendary 4th of July celebrations, Maggie, a mother and writer, and Chad, a sound engineer and music producer, met in a local bar. They fell madly in love rapidly and decided to marry a month before the wedding date. Maggie's two kids, Maisie and Charlie, fit right in and adored Chad just as much as Maggie did.

Her brother performed the ceremony, Charlie, Maggie's eleven-year-old son, served as best man, and Maisie, Maggie's fourteen-year-old daughter, served as maid of honor.
On August 26, 1995, Maggie McGuane shared vows with novelist Walter Kirn. He was 32 years of age at the time of her wedding, and she was just 19 years old. Maggie went forward with the wedding despite being 13 years younger than Kirn since she was profoundly in love with the novelist.
Melville, Montana, hosted the wedding. Maggie chose a Lutheran church as her wedding destination because she wanted her wedding to be traditional, despite the fact that it was roughly 80 miles from the nearest airport, Bozeman.
