A viral interview by former Bloomberg reporter Christie Smythe reveals that the reporter was engaged in a romantic relationship with Martin Shkreli. In the interview, the journalist revealed that she upended her 'perfect little Brooklyn life' by falling in love with the guy who is currently serving his prison sentence.

In the play 'The Journalist and the Pharma Bro,' based on Janet Malcolm's famous discourse on journalistic ethics, Stephanie Clifford describes how 'over the course of nine months, beginning in July 2018, Christie Smythe – who broke the story of Shkreli's arrest in December 2015 – 'quit her job, moved out of [her] apartment and divorced her husband.'

And Christie Smythe seems to be happy with how things ended up. As per Stephanie Clifford, Christie said, 'I fell down the rabbit hole,' and admitted that she is happy there. 

'Ms. Smythe's conduct concerning Mr. Shkreli was not consistent with expectations for a Bloomberg journalist,' Bloomberg spokesperson made a statement on the matter, as per USA Today. 'It became apparent that it would be best to part ways. Ms. Smythe tendered her resignation, and we accepted it.'

'She asked if she could kiss him, and he said yes,' Stephanie Clifford added. 'The room smelled of chicken wings, she remembers. They couldn't touch beyond a chaste hug and kiss, per prison rules, and have never slept together, but the relationship moved forward through continued visits, phone calls, and emails.'

But suddenly, after the coronavirus pandemic, Martin Shkreli stopped communicating with Smythe, according to Stephanie Clifford. And his only comment was, 'Mr. Shkreli wishes Ms. Smythe, the best of luck in her future endeavors.' To the remark, Smythe responded, 'That's sweet.'
