Rick was previously married to Penny Daniels, a fellow journalist and an on-air reporter for WSVN-TV in Miami. The pair looked perfect for each other in hindsight considering the fact that both had similar work backgrounds. Furthermore, Leventhal and his first wife even shared the privilege to be parents as they had two adorable daughters, Veronica and Shoshana, born in 1991 and 1996, respectively. While his elder daughter is an activist and a social worker, his younger child is interested in music and philosophy. She currently goes to Goucher College to study women's studies.

Despite their best efforts, Rick failed to save his marriage with Penny as they later parted ways with a divorce. In pursuit of moving on, he later fell in love with Beth Shak, the gorgeous American poker player. However, like most weddings in Vegas, their marriage was short-lived as well as Beth filed a divorce in April 2017.
