Bret Baier was born to a family of mixed German and Irish origins, in Rumson, New Jersey. His parents raised him Catholic and sent him to Marist School, a private Roman Catholic high school in Atlanta, Georgia.

Amy Baier and her husband Bret share two children as of now. They are both sons, and are namely, Daniel and Paul. Paul was born with heart problems. Once, President  George W. Bush invited Baier and his wife and son to the Oval Office for a visit and had the White House physician update him on Paul's progress. He underwent open-heart surgery in 2008.
