Drew had an unhealthy eating habit and was less cautious about his diet in the past. He used to drink a lot as he recalls that his love of beer and hearty food was a significant factor in gaining weight: 'When I was doing [The Drew Carey Show], I was eating a lot of garbage, I was drinking a lot, so I had a lot of mood swings. I had diabetes.'

But Carey realized he was risking his life too through unhealthy diets. He wanted to be around for his then 5-year-old Connor, the son of his former fiancée, Nicole Jaracz. Carey decided to bring change to his lifestyle and diet.

In 2010, he incorporated strict dieting and a rigorous workout routine into his life, getting rid of any other unhealthy habits. He avoided beer, his favorite, and started eating healthy organic meals. He hit the gym every day to build up his physique and attain a fit and healthier body.

Drew has briefed on his diet plan to Daily News: 'No carbs. I have cheated a couple times, but basically no carbs, not even a cracker. No bread at all. No pizza, nothing. No corn, no beans, no starches of any kind. Egg whites in the morning or like, Greek yogurt, cut some fruit.'
With beer out of option, Drew has eliminated other drinks too. 'I don't drink anything but water, he said. 'No coffee, no tea, no soda.'
Workout also played a vital role in losing weight for Drew. He used to hit the gym regularly to keep his body physically active. In the same article, he mentioned his workout routine: 'Lots of cardio. About 45 minutes of cardio, at least 45 minutes of cardio. I've been kind of lazy like lately, so I'm not doing it six days a week, but I will be for this next month.'

Ultimately after a period of hard work and dedication, the game show host had already dropped a whopping 100 pounds. He even told in an interview that he did not have Type II Diabetes anymore: 'I'm not diabetic anymore. No medication needed.' Plainly, Drew showed adopting a healthy and physically active routine can actually help a person achieve a successful weight loss.
