The story between the two starts when they were in high school. But they were not studying in the same one. Jill is a Boston College graduate, while Richard is a Providence College graduate. The two started dating since those high school days.
The wife still remembers how hardworking Richard was in college. "He's very driven," Jill told Pioneer Press in 2013. "Even in college, he worked harder than any kid I’ve ever seen. He worked at a high school when he was in college. The other kids were out partying, and he was getting up early and driving to go to high school practice. I’ve always known him just to work hard."

The two got married sometime around 2007/2008 and have been together ever since. The exact date is not publicly available, but Ava is around 10 years old. Meanwhile, Jack was born April 21, 2014, after Pitino came back home from the Gophers basketball team's NIT championship win in NYC.
According to him, Jack's birth actually helped him reflect on his involvement in Ava's life. He's been a better father since then and often brings her when he's coaching during games as she loves his work too. He was since often going to her dance center in Edina to pick her up and even catch some of her practice time.

Meanwhile, Zoe was born in 2016. The kids are very invested in sports like their father and grandfather Rick. Ava likes to play soccer but has also practiced golf, tennis and swimming. Jack is also learning basketball with a little hoop in his room. The sports "give my wife some reprieve," the coach says.
