The Secret to the Longlasting Relationship Between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell

Find out the secret to the long lasting relationship between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have one of the most incredible love stories to tell their grandchildren. They have been together for over 37 years, but the two have not tied the knot yet. But they have one of the strongest bonds a couple can ever have. Their commitment, genuine affection for one another, and their willingness to be with each other has kept them together for over three and a half decades. And that's a long time for an unmarried duo to remain committed to each other.

The reason Kurt and Goldie have not wed comes from their mutual promise to never get married. They did not like the idea of marriage as they believed it would ruin the special relationship they had. But their decision is about to change.

It seems that the couple has finally decided to get married, as per an article by Celebrity Insider. The CoronaVirus pandemic made them consider their relationship once more, even though their decision to remain unmarried has not put any strain on their bond; it is as strong as ever. The same article put out the following reason for the decision:

Goldie recently had an epiphany, given the current state of the world. She'd been the one holding back all this time, and Kurt was just going with the flow. But they've only grown closer since quarantining, and the idea of 'becoming one' suddenly appealed to her.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn Plan to Get Married After the End of the CoronaVirus Pandemic

Kurt and Goldie have made a decision to wed after the coronavirus pandemic ends. And some sources tell that Goldie is spending her quarantine period planning for her wedding.

They want an intimate gathering in their backyard, a real homey atmosphere. It'll be short and sweet and deeply moving, for sure. She wants her spiritual guru to perform the ceremony and finish off with healing gong songs.

They, thus, are going to have the wedding at their home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. The ceremony is going to be attended by their children, who they are very close to, and thus the wedding is going to be a full family affair. And obviously, there will be plenty of dancing, celebratory toasts, and good wine. The article tells that guests will also get to observe Goldie's Balinese dancing skills, and her daughter, Kate Hudson, is also set to entertain the attendees by dancing.

In an article by Woman's Day, she revealed the secrets:

It's important that you are able to hold up your side of the house. I believe that one person can't bear the whole burden because then their shoulders start getting heavy. The other part is to stay as sexy as you can and make sure you focus on all of those aspects of a healthy relationship—and sexuality is definitely one of them.

Hawn disclosed another secret in an interview with 'Loose Women', which is not to spend every moment with your partner. She said, "In a healthy, longer-term relationship, I would say it's great to be together about 68 percent of the time."

A Little History on Goldie And Kurt's Relationship of Over 37 Years

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell first met on the set of the Disney movie 'The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band' in 1966. They only got acquainted at the time and did not date.

Hawn recalls the first meeting in an interview with BBC Radio 4, "I was 21, and he was 16. I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later, we met up again, and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him. We both said we would never go out with another actor, so it just shows you never can tell."

Below, we present a little history on the relationship between Kurt and Goldie.

Goldie Had Been in Several Relationships Before She Met Kurt Russell

Goldie and Kurt did not date after their first meeting in 1966; they were just acquaintances. Goldie has previously been in a relationship with actor Mark Goddard and Crooner Spiro Venduras. She married her first husband, Gus Trikonis, on May 16, 1969, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a dancer who later became a director. He appeared as a Shark in 1961's musical romantic drama film 'West Side Story.' Goldie and Gus separated on April 9, 1973.

Goldie got her divorce from Gus Trikonis finalized in June 1976. The engaged couple got married on July 3, 1976, in Takoma Park, Maryland. They went on to have two children, Oliver Hudson (born September 7, 1976) and Kate Hudson (born April 19, 1979), who would both be famous actors later on.

She got her divorce from Hudson, finalized in March 1982.

Kurt and Goldie met for the second time on the set of romantic drama war film 'Swing Shift' in 1983, the first one being Disney's 'The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band' in 1966. In their second meeting, Kurt decides to ask her out. In an interview with Conan O'Brien, Kurt recalls how he used a strange pick-up line.

I was severely hungover, and I didn't know Goldie at all outside of having worked with her those many years before. I just didn't have in my mind what I was going to see, and she had a great body. So the first thing that came out was, 'Man, you've got a great figure.' It came out quickly, and it could've gone wrong, and she said, 'Why thank you.'

At the time, Goldie did not have the key to her renovating home, so they broke in. Kurt Russell explains to People what happened after that:

We eventually found our way upstairs, looking around at imaginary furniture, and we were in the imaginary bedroom, now, and we are realistically having sex when the police walked in because we had to break into the place to get in. That was our first date.

Russell describes the incident as 'bizarre and weird.' They were not arrested, however, as he admits that he and Goldie went to a hotel room to finish their date.

In 1987, Kurt and Goldie Starred Together in the Movie 'Overboard'

Kurt and Goldie starred together in the movie 'Overboard' in 1987. The couple often claims they don't watch their own films, but after watching 'Overboard' together, it reminded them of why they fell in love in the first place.

In an interview with James Corden on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden,' describes how the movie helped renew the spark in their relationship.

You know how sometimes you forget why you fell in love? I remembered everything, and why I fell in love. It was really something to be able to watch that.

In 1990, Kurt and Goldie revealed their decision to remain unmarried. They did not want to ruin their strong relationship together by tying the knot. Hawn reveals more on their resolve not to get married in an article by Now to Love:

We have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted, and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring, and loving, then we're fine. We have raised our children brilliantly; they are beautiful people. We did a great job there, and we didn't have to get married to do that. I like waking up every day and seeing that he is there and knowing that I have a choice. There is really no reason to marry.

But now, the couple has changed their minds, after thirty years of making that decision. They are going to get married after the end of the current pandemic, which will take their relationship to the next level.

Kurt and Goldie Are Content With Their Long-Term Relationship Spent Together

Kurt and Goldie are happy with their relationship after all these years. In 2018, Kurt expressed his reflection on their relationship to People, "Look, I've said this for 34 years, I don't think Goldie and I, in real terms, are any different than any other couple; we go through all the same things. But the important thing of who the two people are in a relationship is what you have to deal with. There's gonna be ups and downs and sideways and everything else. I just think after 34 years you're gonna have experienced every emotion that you can together."

Hawn also expressed her gratitude for having Kurt by her side all this time, "He is a unique and very gifted person. He is smart, alive and a big character. He's also a great father...and he is very male!"
